Sport connects – across language, origin and generations.
This is precisely what the project “Integration through Sport in the Oberhavel District” is all about, which was funded by the Migration Department of the Oberhavel District from March 1 to December 31, 2025 and implemented by the Familien-Sport-Verein-Oberhavel e.V..
Bringing people together.
Through exercise, games, and interaction, we have strengthened the social integration of migrants, promoted their physical and mental health, reduced language barriers, and overcome prejudices. Sport has become a door opener for exchange, trust, and respectful interaction.
Multicultural sports groups have been established throughout the Oberhavel district. The offer was supplemented by three large open sports days, in which over 350 people actively participated – families, children, young people and adults from very different walks of life. What was particularly important to us: Participation from the beginning. Families and network partners were deliberately involved in the planning and implementation of the family sports days.
Another focus was on language support through sport and the development of sustainable structures. Trainer programs and coach tandems were developed in training courses, network meetings and practical formats. A total of eight instructors were qualified as general sports trainers C for working with refugees.
A real centerpiece of the project was the active involvement of migrants as multipliers and instructors. This significantly facilitated access to club sports – and enabled sports clubs to grow in a more diverse, open and sustainable manner.
With sport-vereint.de, we have also created a basis for making sports offers in the district clearly, precisely and, above all, multilingually visible. The platform supports clubs in reaching new target groups and invites people to discover suitable exercise offers in their area.
